ARTWORKS
As part of our art, environmental education and conservation fundraising projects, artist and Drawing for the Planet founder Jane Lee McCracken creates composite artworks featuring children and adults Biro (ballpoint pen) drawings created in her workshops.
Jane's artworks are displayed as murals in educational institutions including museums and schools to raise awareness of vulnerable wildlife and biodiversity loss. We also present prints of the artworks to participating schools for display. Here is a selection of the artworks with project links:
LAGUNA MARINE WILDLIFE PROJECT, 2023
Laguna Marine Wildlife 2023
This artwork features drawings by children and adults selected by Jane from every USA and UK workshop—it also features Laguna, her ballpoint pen drawing created for the project. The artwork presents 237 drawings of 154 marine species that mostly inhabit the Pacific Ocean off Laguna Beach, including the critically endangered tope, giant sea bass and red abalone. LAGUNA ART MUSEUM, COAST FILM & MUSIC FESTIVAL, AND LAGUNA BEACH UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT WORKSHOPS 2022/23
Laguna Ocean 2023
Children age 4+ and adults from California created drawings in the Laguna Art Museum, the Coast Film and Music Festival, and the Laguna Beach Unified School District's Celebration of the Arts workshops. Species include the flapjack octopus, Spanish shawl and bottlenose dolphin.
Top of the World Ocean 2023
Children from Grade 3, Top of the World Elementary School, Laguna Beach created drawings in Jane's virtual workshops. Species include the Panamic Christmas tree worm, California tonguefish, and California spiny lobster.
El Morro Ocean 2023
Children from Grades 3 and 4, El Morro Elementary School, Laguna Beach created drawings in Jane's virtual workshops. Species include the rough-toothed dolphin, black abalone, and California sea cucumber.
B&GC Ocean 2023
Kindergarten to Junior High School children from Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Ana and Laguna Beach, California, created drawings in Jane's virtual workshops in partnership with Laguna Art Museum. Species include the football octopus, sheep crab and Bennett's flyingfish.
Laguna Ocean 2 2023
Children age 4+ and adults from California created drawings in the Laguna Art Museum and the Coast Film & Music Festival workshops. Species include the black abalone, golf-ball crab and blue shark.
UK
Kepier Ocean 2023
Students from Year 10, Kepier Academy, Houghton le Spring, Tyne and Wear created drawings of species including the opah, leopard shark and garibaldi.
KEVI Ocean 2023
Children from Year 9 and 3 teachers, King Edward VI School, Morpeth, Northumberland created drawings of species including the spotted rat fish, short-fin pilot whale and winged argonaut.
East Boldon Ocean 2023
Children from Reception to Year 2 children, East Boldon Infant School, South Tyneside created drawings of species including the giant Pacific octopus, Guadalupe fur seal, and red rock crab.
Brenkley Ocean 2023
Children and staff from Brenkley School, Seaton Burn, North Tyneside, created drawings of species including the gooseneck barnacle, mosshead sculpin and cabezon.
ZAMBIAN WILDLIFE
England, 2023
Zambian Wildlife features drawings by Year 5 children from Harton Primary School, South Shields. Forty Zambian and Ugandan species are represented including the African savannah elephant, Eastern Gorilla and white-backed vulture for our Zambian Wildlife project in partnership with Global First Responder.
DRAWING FOR THE PLANET MAP
Global, 2023
Drawing for the Planet Map features a selection of drawings by global children of over 400 species. The artwork was created to illustrate DftP's impact, mapping countries where schools and conservation organisations have participated in our projects. The map is evolving with the animal drawings changing to full colour as people from more countries take part in our projects. Our mission is to give communities and nature from every country on Earth a voice, and like the page introduction image, for the map to transform to full colour.
THE WILD ESCAPE
England, 2023
Northumbrian Wildlife features a selection of drawings by North East children created in Jane's workshops at Great North Museum: Hancock for the Art Fund's The Wild Escape. The drawings form a map of Northumberland. As part of this project she also created 9 further artworks for each participating school. Find out more here:

LIBERIAN WILDLIFE
England, 2023
Liberian Wildlife features drawings 37 drawings by Year 6, Ryhope Junior School, Sunderland of 34 Liberian species. Created as part of DftP's Chimpanzee Community 2 project in partnership with Born Free and Liberia Chimpanzee Rescue and Protection the artwork places Western Chimpanzees at the centre of the design surrounded by forest dwelling Liberian wildlife, symbolising these animals dependancy on chimpanzees as a keystone species. BORN FREE FOREVER
Scotland, 2022
Born Free Forever features 25 drawings by George Heriot's Primary children, Edinburgh of 25 bronze lion sculptures by artists Gillie and Marc created for Born Free's UK-wide exhibition Born Free Forever. A print of the artwork was presented to George Heriot's and is on display in the school. Find out more here:

LIONS OF BORN FREE
Ethiopia, 2022
Lions of Born Free features 35 Ethiopian children's drawings of international wildlife charity Born Free's lions. Working in partnership with Born Free the artwork was displayed at its Mane Event in 2022. Large prints of the artwork were presented by DftP to each of the 6 participating Ethiopian schools. Born Free received a donation from DftP. Find out more here:

KETTINS OCEAN
Scotland, 2022
Kettins Ocean features 28 drawings of 17 marine species by Primary 4-7 children from Kettins Primary School, Blairgowrie, Scotland. CRAMLINGTON WILDLIFE
England, 2022
Cramlington Wildlife features 288 drawings of 65 species by years 3-6 children from Cramlington Village Primary School, Northumberland, England. The mural was presented to Cramlington Primary and is on display in the school Hall.As part of the project the Northumberland Wildlife Trust received a donation from DftP. Find out more here:
